About NYPRR
NYPRR has been published on the first day of each month for six years. The publisher is Lazar Emanuel, JD, Harvard Law School. For many years, he was executive vice-president of Emanuel Publishing Corp., the leading publisher of study aids for law students.
NYPRR's Chief Editorial Advisor is Roy Simon, Professor of Law at Hofstra University School of Law. Professor Simon teaches Lawyers' Ethics and is Director of the Hofstra Institute for Legal Ethics. He is the author of Simon's New York Code of Professional Responsibility Annotated, an annual compendium of New York's Disciplinary Rules and of statutes, regulations and casenotes on Ethics and Professionalism.
NYPRR contains twelve pages each month. The articles are on current issues in the field of ethics and professionalism and are written by leading professors and practitioners in the field. Each issue contains a monthly self-assessment test of 20 multiple-choice questions built on the first eight pages of the newsletter. To receive .5 CLE credits, a lawyer must read the issue and answer 16 of 20 questions correctly.
Experienced attorneys may earn 6 CLE credit hours in Ethics and Professionalism per enrollment year from NYPRR in this manner. The CLE Rules provide that "at least four (4) credit hours [of the minimum of 24 credit hours in each biennial reporting cycle] shall be in Ethics and Professionalism."
NYPRR is authorized by New York's CLE Board to issue .5 CLE credits in Ethics and Professionalism to experienced lawyers for each self-assessment test with a grade of 80 or more. A lawyer may take a test only once.
