CLE Accreditation

On February 17, 2004, the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board approved NYPRR's application for renewal of accreditation to offer non-transitional hybrid individual course programs in the Ethics and Professionalism category. The accreditation is for a period of three years ending January 3 1, 2007.

NYPRR, a monthly newsletter, is authorized to issue .5 CLE credit hours per month to experienced New York lawyers who read each monthly issue. The lawyer is required to read the first eight pages of the monthly newsletter and to complete a 20-question multiple-choice assessment test. Credit is issued upon completion of the self-assessment test with a minimum passing grade of 80 (16 correct answers out of 20). Attorneys may take a test only once.

Experienced attorneys may earn 6 CLE credit hours in Ethics and Professionalism per enrollment year from NYPRR in this manner. The CLE Rules provide that "at least four (4) credit hours [of the minimum of 24 credit hours in each biennial reporting cycle] shall be in Ethics and Professionalism."

NYPRR's accreditation extends only to the newsletter-with-test course format and to a non-transitional course limited to experienced lawyers. Newly admitted lawyers are not able to receive CLE credit from non-transitional courses.
